Survey reveals demand for SAN-like, cloud solutions for high-performance databases
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 11, 2023 – Lightbits®, the innovation leader in simple, flexible, and cost-efficient data platform solutions for any cloud, revealed today the results of its 2023 Public Cloud Survey. The survey reveals that 80% of respondents support high-performance database workloads with the majority storing, managing, and analyzing their data in the public cloud.
Lightbits envisions this trend increasing as more organizations make the switch to the cloud seeking cloud solutions with SAN-like capabilities. Gartner research reinforces this as it found that the worldwide infrastructure as a service market grew by 41% in 2021 to total almost $91 billion. With a combined market share of 60%, Amazon (38.9%) and Microsoft (21.1%) dominated the public cloud services segment.
“As a robust data storage platform for any cloud, we remove the bottlenecks associated with cloud-native storage solutions for IO-sensitive applications. Our annual cloud survey reveals a need for cost-efficient, highly performant storage that removes the complexity of management,” said Carol Platz, vice president of marketing at Lightbits Labs. “We fill a gap for storage-intensive workloads on the cloud delivering unmatched speed, flexibility, and efficiency. Customers want to replicate the capabilities of their SAN environments in the cloud. And Lightbits is perfectly positioned to fulfill that need and enable the migration of high-performance database workloads like NoSQL, mySQL, and analytics to AWS and Azure.”
Additionally, survey respondents cited the high cost of ownership (50%), poor performance (28%), management complexity (26%), and outdated technology (16%) as the most significant storage challenges they face today. Lightbits eliminates these challenges with composable, software-defined block storage that’s built from the ground up to deliver SAN capabilities for any cloud without any compromises. Tests prove that Lightbits delivers better performance on the cloud for Oracle workloads than native cloud storage while eliminating management complexity and overprovisioning to reduce TCO.
One of the world’s largest financial services organizations uses Lightbits to power its cloud on AWS. This customer cites 3X improvement in cloud storage TCO, a better cloud experience, the ability to meet or exceed their SLAs, a reduction in operational risk, and the ability to implement a hybrid scheme as some of the most coveted benefits.
